Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Seared Tuna:
2 tuna steaks (about 6 ounces each)
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 garlic clove, minced
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1/4 cup sesame seeds (white, black, or a mix)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for searing)
For the Ginger Garlic String Beans:
2 cups fresh string beans, trimmed
1 tablespoon sesame oil or vegetable oil
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
1 teaspoon soy sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
Recipe Instructions:
Prepare the Tuna:
Marinate the Tuna:
In a shallow dish, combine soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and rice vinegar.
Place the tuna steaks in the marinade, ensuring they’re evenly coated. Cover and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes.
Prepare the Sesame Crust:
Spread the sesame seeds on a plate. Remove the tuna from the marinade and pat dry slightly. Press each side of the tuna into the sesame seeds to coat evenly.
Sear the Tuna:
Heat the Oil:
Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Sear the Tuna:
Place the sesame-crusted tuna in the skillet. Sear for 1–2 minutes per side for rare, or longer for your desired level of doneness. The sesame seeds should turn golden and fragrant.
Rest the Tuna:
Remove the tuna from the skillet and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
Prepare the String Beans:
Sauté the Beans:
Heat sesame oil in a skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the string beans and cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add Ginger and Garlic:
Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
Season:
Add soy sauce, salt, and pepper, tossing the beans to coat. Cook for an additional 1–2 minutes until tender-crisp.
Serve:
Slice the seared tuna into thin pieces and plate alongside the ginger garlic string beans.
Drizzle a bit of soy sauce or leftover marinade (heated) over the tuna for extra flavor.
Garnish with a sprinkle of sesame seeds or chopped scallions, if desired.
